A survey suggests that many of us are getting more worried about our job prospects!
Nearly a quarter of us believe we have less job security than a year ago, while fewer than 20% of us believe we have more.
Overall, about a third of 2,000 people surveyed by Lloyds TSB said job prospects across the UK economy had got worse in the past year. Is this true or is it just our cynical thinking?
8 out of 10 of us said we thought interest rates would keep on rising, (unsurprisingly!) thus fuelling concern over our jobs.
Just 18% of those surveyed said they felt more secure in their employment than they did a year ago; this is an equal all-time low for the survey (conducted every month since November 2004).
Over 30% of us said we thought job prospects across the UK economy had got worse in the last year, but just one in seven said things had got better.
Perhaps this is due to ever increasing interest rates?
Since last August, UK interest rates have gone up 4 times in a bid to keep a lid on inflation, but many analysts expect the Bank of England to raise rates over the next few months.
The message is that rates are on the rise seems to be getting through to consumers, Lloyds TSB said. "The combination of interest rate hikes and consumers' correct expectation that prices are on the rise means the spectre of unemployment is now beginning to weigh more heavily," said Trevor Williams, chief economist at Lloyds TSB.
So, do you fear for your job or are confident your career is secure?
Perhaps rising interest rates over the next few months will answer that question for you?
